The Nashville Center was hopping as GMA Week officially got off to a fast start. Seminars, exhibits, luncheons, meetings, showcases, meet ‘n greets, press conferences, concerts; there
is something for everyone at GMA Week.
There are exhibits set up on two levels of the Convention Center in the hallways outside the
meeting rooms. You can see the exhibits as you come and go from the seminars. The
publication bins are in the same area on the lower level – stop by and pick up a copy of the
April issue of Christian Activities!
As usual, the hotel and convention center are festooned with a plethora of posters promoting new artists, veteran groups, and the stars of tomorrow.
Anatomy of a Meet ‘N Greet: Something new I discovered this year was a meet ‘n greet
called “Artist of the Day.” I found the ever charming and always smiling Rebecca St.
James holding court along with the tongue-in-cheek Relient K guys. You could mix and
mingle with the artists while munching on tasty morsels. This was an event right down my alley!
Rebecca posed for some photo ops with the Incredible Hulk to promote an upcoming project that I hear is, well, incredible!
Tonight the Sparrow Showcase brought Sanctus Real, The Elms, and Switchfoot to the
stage of the Renaissance Ballroom. The room was fairly packed, the music was fairly loud,
and the fairly young crowd was jammin’ to the gospel rock. First up was Toledo, Ohio’s own Sanctus Real, performing songs such as “Sink or Swim.” Next, The Elms, recently seen on tour with Jars of Clay as well as Peter Frampton, performed some songs from their first headline tour. Switchfoot, finished the night proving why they sold out 22 of their 28 tour dates.
During their set, Sanctus Real threw t-shirts
into the crowd. One landed on my head and was quickly snatched up. A courteous, smiling
young man handed it back to me, however. You can try your hand at winning my Sanctus Real t-shirt by signing
up for our blast on the main page.
