The Gospel Music Association (GMA) has announced deadlines and guidelines for the 8th Annual GMA/CMB Radio Station of the Year Awards, which will be presented at the 2006 GMA Music Awards on April 5, 2006 in Nashville.
The radio station awards acknowledge those Christian radio stations that meet the highest standards of quality and have the strongest impact on their listening areas, according to John W. Styll, president of GMA. One radio station from each of the market segments — major, large, medium and small – are honored with this award.
The entry deadline is January 20, 2006. Eligible stations must play Christian music for at least 50 percent of their broadcast day. They will be judged in four areas — community involvement, ratings, air-check and industry leadership. Three finalists in each market category will be announced by the GMA in late February, and the winners will be notified in late March and then honored at the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards which will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House on April 5. The GMA Music Awards are the culminating event for GMA Music Week 2006, which will be held at various locations in downtown Nashville from April 1 -5, 2006 and include radio specific programming through the Christian Music Broadcasters Seminar (CMB).
The Radio Station of the Year winners from 2005 were WCIC in Peoria, IL (small market); WCQR in Johnson City, TN (medium market); WPOZ in Orlando, FL (large market); and KSBJ in Houston, TX (major market).
