Gary L. Bishop joins staff of World Bible Translation Center

World Bible Translation Center announced the addition of Gary L. Bishop to its staff as Vice President for Development effective March 2004. Bishop has served as President and CEO of Mission Aviation Fellowship headquartered in Redlands, CA for the last six years. During his time at MAF, Gary led the ministry to significantly increase its global outreach.
“I’m very excited about Gary being a part of our family at the Translation Center,” said Craig Smith, WBTC president. “He brings great gifts that will help this ministry tremendously. I look forward to having him on board as we get many more Bibles in the hands of people worldwide.”
Bishop commented that both he and his wife have carefully sought the Lord¹s will in considering the call to join WBTC. “We are confident serving with WBTC is God’s leading for our lives and we want to be obedient to His calling. We are passionate about the mission and vision of WBTC and are eager to be on mission with God to get Bibles into the hands of the world’s people.”
Bishop is no stranger to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He earned a bachelor’s degree in aviation management and an M.B.A. from Dallas Baptist University. He also completed the Stanford Graduate School of Business’ Executive Development program in financial management and the Cambridge Training Center of MIT Executive Program in processor and software technology.
In March 2001, Bishop commissioned a global survey to identify the remaining areas of the world with the most significant barriers to the Gospel, concentrating particulaly on those that could be overcome with transportation, communications, and technology solutions. The findings from Operation ACCESS! will be published in 2005 and distributed throughout the missions community worldwide.
Bishop has also been involved strategically on an international level in analyzing the use of resources to reach remote and unreached people groups.
Both Bishop and his wife Donna have been very active in churches and ministries over the last 30 years. Both have been leaders in Christian education, spearheaded ministries and been heavily involved in local church life. They have two married sons and four grandchildren.
World Bible Translation Center exists to translate and distribute faithful, easy-to-understand translations of the Scriptures in the world¹s major languages to lead people to Jesus and help believers grow in faith. The Translation Center has completed 30 New Testaments and 13 Bibles during its 30-year existence. Some 6.5 million of the Center’s Bibles, New Testaments and Scripture portions have been distributed so far this year.
The Center’s first translation was the Easy-to-Read English Bible, which enjoys popularity worldwide as a ministry tool. The text’s easy-to-understand style is prized by church planters and cherished by seekers. It is equally valued by long-time students of the Word who find it consistently gives them fresh insights into divine truth. To visit the Translation Center’s web site go to www.wbtc.com.
