From American Idol to Australian Idol

Dubbed Australia?’s ?Soul Mama? by former Australian Idol judge Ian Dickson, Angie Narayan (28) is on her way to being one of the country’s leading soul performers with the launch this Easter of her debut album, Undeniable. Since commanding the nation’s attention on the reality program in 2004, Angie now divides her time between studio recording sessions and performing soul and Motown classics on the live music circuit with her band, Soul Engine.
The Narayan family?s gospel roots and Angie’s years of experience in choirs led to a role as one of the key soloists in leading youth organisation, Youth Alive, with whom she toured Japan in 2003. Angie says that faith plays a “central role” in her life.
“Having faith in the opportunities that present themselves and belief in those I encounter along the way has really helped me make sense of my journey through life,” Angie says.
Her first mainstream radio single will be a cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Chain Of Fools,” while Christian radio will receive “Believer,” a song from producer Dane Charles who wrote it at a time in his life when belief and faith were all he had to cling to.
“It’s great that the lyrics work on so many levels, including a spiritual one,” Dane says.
“Having Angie sing Believer is such a natural fit for me. I’d been saving it for the right artist to take it and transcend the ordinary. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. I hope it inspires every single listener,” the former New Yorker says.
Angie will launch Undeniable at AGMF 06.
