Former Youth Minister Battles for a “Pure Revolution”

After losing his wife and 2-year-old daughter to AIDS through an infected blood transfusion in the early ’90s, Doug Herman (a former youth minister) began battling for a revolution against sexual impurity that ultimately infected his girls.
Today, Herman resides in Littleton, Colo. and speaks to students and families around the country about sexual purity and Christian commitment.  He books more than 100 dates a year, including youth camps, conferences, worship services, and has presented over 2,000 high school assemblies worldwide.
At each event, his heart-gripping testimony makes a lasting impression on audiences.
“My wife and daughter did not have a choice about their future, but teenagers and families today do have a choice. And that choice will create a ripple effect that deeply directs their family lineage for generations,” Herman said.
In addition to his speaking engagements, Herman has written several books including Time for a Pure Revolution, Come Clean, What Good is God? Finding Faith and Hope in Troubled Times, and FaithQuake: Rebuilding Your Faith after Tragedy Strikes.
He has been interviewed on over 200 international radio and television programs, in addition to hosting his own radio program, “Pure Revolution.” He is a co-founder of the Community Advisory Board of the Children’s Hospital of Denver for the Children’s Hospital HIV Program.  He is also a co-founder and executive committee member of CCARE (Colorado Council for Abstinence and Relationship Education) and a co-founder of the NFAE (National Federation for Abstinence Education).
Furthermore, Herman has established the Pure Revolution Conference, which presents a Biblical perspective of purity. This two-day conference is designed for families to begin communicating with one another about the issues of sexual purity.
“Pure Revolution Conferences are revolutionary because it’s a family approach to purity, not just a teenager’s approach,” Herman said. “The cool thing is to have parents involved in this conference because we need to get this message to them, as well. At the end of the conference, it’s not just about a teenager signing a pledge card; it’s about a family.  It’s a time when parents can choose to renew their vows, and single parents can pledge to remain abstinent until they re-marry. Then, a teenager following the example of their parents can sign the pledge card, because it’s a family commitment.”

Local businesses, community organizations, and public schools network with these conferences to increase the ability to truly saturate the community with this message of purity.
“I expect to see these conferences really take off and we’ll see families and communities deeply impacted,” Herman said. “It’s time for a new revolution to begin — a pure revolution.  The sexual revolution of the ’60s and ’70s offered free love and sex.  Well, it wasn’t free.  Someone had to pay the price.  And sadly, that is our teen generation today.”
