Standard Publishing’s latest offering First Virtues® for Toddlers from bestselling author Mary Manz Simon, delivers 12 popular stories, all in one volume, which help youngsters learn godly virtues in a fun, meaningful way. These childhood favorites with Piglet, Duckling, Squirrel, and other popular animals help toddlers learn about godly character. Each story focuses on a particular virtue and a different animal, which helps young readers and their parents understand and remember important life-shaping virtues.
Readers will read stories, including “Bunny Loves Others,” “Piglet Tells the Truth,” “Puppy Makes Friends,” “Koala Does His Best,” and eight others.
“The book’s format is developmentally age appropriate for even the youngest children,” says Darrell Lewis, Vice President of Marketing, Standard Publishing.
“In First Virtues® for Toddlers, each virtue is defined in an easy-to-understand language, followed by child friendly situations,” explains author Mary Manz Simon.
For example, truthfulness is defined as “When I say I will be true, that means I won’t lie to you.” The accompanying illustration shows Piglet, who obviously just broke a vase. Piglet continues through the pages of the book, revealing how honesty is applied in everyday situations. As one of the concluding lines reads, “When God tells me ‘I love you,’ those three words are honest, too.”
“We make the mistake of thinking that children will ‘catch’ a virtue when they see us opening the door for someone or sharing with a friend,” Simon says. “Virtues are caught but they are also taught.”
