Dianne Sturdivant, principal at Tom Joy Elementary School, has been appointed principal at David Lipscomb Elementary School, said Dr. Keith Nikolaus, vice president and director of David Lipscomb Campus School.
Sturdivant will succeed Gail Srygley effective June 1. Srygley has been the elementary school coordinator at David Lipscomb Campus School since 1988 and has chosen to retire.
“Gail has done an outstanding job of providing positive leadership for our elementary school program. Her vision and passion for excellence have fostered a climate of continuous quality improvement. Dianne’s educational experience, people skills and spiritual commitment will continue to build on the heritage of excellence that has characterized Gail’s leadership,” Nikolaus said.
Sturdivant has enjoyed her time in metro schools, but is also excited about the opportunity to work at DLES.
“As an alumnus of David Lipscomb, I feel that I am returning home. I have had a great experience working in metro, but I’m also honored to have this opportunity to lead DLES. I know that I am joining an excellent team.
“I’m a firm believer in evaluating situations to find areas of strength and areas that need strengthening. I want to work with everyone at DLES to evaluate where the school is and to figure out how we can achieve all of our goals.”
A 1985 graduate of Stratford High School, Sturdivant earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at Lipscomb University in 1988 and her master’s degree in administration and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1991.
“She brings a wide variety of experiences with her,” said Nikolaus. She served on the steering committee for the 2001 and 2004 Southeastern Principals Conference held in Nashville. She has served as an evaluator for the SACS accreditation program. She has authored and received three Eskind grants and been active in the development of a variety of education materials. Her community involvement includes a stint on the Madison Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
Sturdivant is married with two children. She and her family worship at Goodlettsville Church of Christ.
