If the four seasons
Had ears to hear
I would ask the approaching Fall
To descend a little earlier this year.
Red and orange leaves,
Who dangle and parachute
Among the wind tussled tree limbs,
Remind me of early spring balloon rallies
In the April Kansas air.
If my mouth could form the words
That by grace God’s creation would hear,
I’d smile and whisper the words “welcome back.”
