Word Records award winning artist David Phelps, one of the industry’s
most acclaimed vocalists, is releasing his anticipated solo
album, “Life Is A Church,” Sept. 27.
Produced, arranged and recorded by Greg Bieck (Barbara Streisand,
Jessica Simpson), the album follows Phelps’ Word
debut, “Revelation.” “Life Is A Church” combines Phelps’ renowned
vocals with themes encompassing his relationships with God, family
and the world around him. Overall, the project says simply that we
can no longer confine God to Sunday mornings.
With his departure from the Gaither Vocal Band, with whom he has
impressed audiences internationally at over 100 performances a year,
Phelps is excited about dedicating his career fully toward a solo
direction. With endorsements from Bill Gaither such as, “David has to
be one of the most outstanding talents that I have witnessed in the
last 50 years,” Phelps’ decision to begin a new season in life came
after much prayer.
“For over a year now I have been grappling with leaving the Vocal
Band,” says Phelps. “With the council of family, friends, my pastor
and more, I mustered up the courage to take this step of surrender
and obedience. Of course I will miss Bill, Gloria and the wonderful
family I’ve grown to love on the Homecoming tour. However our paths
are too intertwined for it to be over. I’ve had incredible success
with my solo career and that’s where I need to spend my energy right
now. I’m looking forward to having the time to be out on the road
reaching more people with the gifts God has given me.”
Phelps will visit Eastern and Midwestern U.S. cities beginning in
July on a 25-city headline tour and premiere songs from his
anticipated September release. This fall and winter he will again
traverse the nation in support of the album and fans will
additionally get a taste of “Life Is A Church” in the upcoming weeks
as the first single is released to AC and INSP radio.
As an acclaimed solo artist and while a member of the renowned multi-
Platinum selling Gaither Vocal Band, Phelps has performed before
millions including appearances at Billy Graham Mission crusades and
before President Bush at the White House. He first appeared in the
Christian music spotlight as the first-place winner of the Gospel
Music Association’s 1988 Music Seminar in the Rockies vocal
competition. Phelps was then appointed Artist in Residence for First
Baptist Church of Hurst, Texas, and later joined the Gaither Vocal
Band in 1997, where he would be featured on over 30 projects with the
Grammy and Dove Award-winning group. The Gospel Music Association
(GMA) has additionally nominated him twice for “Male Vocalist of the
Year.”
