Canada celebrates homegrown Christian music talent with the 27th annual Covenant Awards show at 6:30pm this Saturday, October 22. The event takes place at the McVety Centre, 50 Gervais Dr., near Eglinton & Don Mills, in Toronto. Several artists are scheduled to make appearances, including Amanda Falk, The Master’s Four, Carried Away, Gaetz Ave, Black Talon, Patricia Shirley, Canadian Idol’s Shane Wiebe, N.I.F.T.Y., and Cheryl Dunn.
Three of Canada’s top rock legends will be handing out awards at this year’s Covenants. Skip Prokop of Lighthouse (One Fine Morning, Sunny Days), Ray Materick (Linda Put The Coffee On) and Ray Lyell (Ray Lyell and the Storm) are all scheduled to appear. The event will also feature Tommy Hunter, recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Gaetz Ave, a group from Red Deer, Alberta, tops this year’s nomination list with eight nominations. Other multiple award nominees include: Thousand Foot Krutch, Matthew Thiessen (as a songwriter and as a member of Relient K), Carolyn Arends, and Carried Away with five nominations each, as well as Brian Doerksen, Maralee Dawn, Greg Sczebel, Hawk Nelson and Shezza with four nominations each.
