Connecticut Man Receives Coloring Book From His Mother
When Father’s Day rolls around this year, Stewart Foley of Hartford, Connecticut, will get a visit from his mother. Normally this would not be newsworthy in and of itself, but in Stewart’s case, his mother has just had her first book accepted for publication, and it is a children’s coloring book she created for him in 1972 when he was only eight years old.
When asked why she created the coloring book, appropriately titled Thank You God for Everything, Marilyn replies, “I wanted children to have fun while realizing some of our many blessings from God.”
Using as her inspiration the things children like to color, Marilyn carefully crafted a book that would teach young Stewart to be thankful for everything, A – Z while also reinforcing the letters of the alphabet. Many years later, a professional photographer saw the book Marilyn created so many years ago, and he encouraged her to get it published. Marilyn had discovered ChristianActivities.com on the web, and sent her book there, hopeful that someone would see the possibilities.
“I liked it right off the bat,” says ChristianActivities.com publisher, Kathryn E. Darden. “Marilyn’s hand drawings were simple but appealing, and her concept was wonderful.” Darden took the book under her wing and together with Marilyn has worked to make some minor improvements to polish it up. Thank You God for Everything is due out this summer.
“I am very proud of my mother for this accomplishment,” says son Stewart. “The book is very special to me, and it is a wonderful Father’s Day gift.”
