As a Texas-born pastor turned comedian, Dennis Swanberg likes to use humor to make a serious point about salvation through performance comedy.
Dubbed America’s Minister of Encouragement, Swanberg entertains audiences with a host of hilarious impressions including presidents, famed TV sheriff Barney Fife, as well as movie legends like John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart.
In high school, Swanberg’s uncanny ability to mimic and impersonate celebrity voices caught the attention of his teachers and classmates while performing as the master of ceremonies for a school talent show. Following that performance, he began receiving invitations to perform at other events.
When Swanberg was 17, he accepted Christ and wondered how his humorous antics would fit into his new lifestyle.
“I wondered how God could use this humor,” Swanberg recalled. “I thought I would have to become a real serious person, but my high school football chaplain told me to become an imitator of Christ and that would last a lifetime. From there, I began speaking at local youth groups and camps. I shared my impersonations as a way to get students’ attention so I could lead into sharing the gospel.”
During his collegiate years at Baylor University in Waco, Swanberg was given the nickname “the many voices of Baylor.” After graduating from Baylor with a double major in Greek and Religion, Swanberg went on to earn a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
For 23 years, he served as a pastor at churches in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. In 1995, he entered into a full-time itinerant ministry and requests for speaking engagements quickly began piling up.
Today, Swanberg travels around the world and addresses nearly 175 churches and organizations each year. He has hosted two successful television series, authored eight books and created over a dozen video projects. His newest book, The ManCode, provides men with essential knowledge that can lead to having a balanced life while strengthening their relationship with God, family and friends and making an impact on their church and community.
“People long for good, clean entertainment that can be shared with anyone at any age,” Swanberg said. “That is why this ministry is committed to providing wholesome entertainment and encouragement for the entire family. Whether it’s because of humor, encouraging words or a Scripture, I love seeing faces light up. Joy and laughter can be a powerful witness to people in our community who need Jesus.”
