Cinco de Mayo Spotlight on Rodrigo Espinoza

Rodrigo’s artistic career began in 1991 when at the age of 18 he formed
a rock band with his college friends in Chile called ALESTE. Shortly after,
ALESTE breaks all records in its native town with its first album going
Gold and receiving the coveted APES Award for “Revelación del Año” (Breakthrough
Artist of the Year) after only three months from their release. The band
reaches new heights when its invited to perform during the “Viña del Mar”
Festival in Chile and its video for the first single “Hay Un Limite” reaches
third place on MTV Latin in 1994. With this first single, ALESTE garners
recognition and charts in other Latin American countries like Venezuela,
Ecuador and Colombia. It was ALESTE’s third single “Nadie Como Yo” that
got Rodrigo great reviews as a solo performer and helped him win the “Radio
Aurora Award” for his contribution to music.
In 1994 Rodrigo met the famous Mexican singer Yuri during “Viña del Mar”
and married her several months later. From there, Rodrigo toured with
his wife extensively before deciding to sign with Miami-based label One
Voice Records in the year 2000. The production of his first album under
One Voice, Me Inundas, started that same year in collaboration with Alvaro
Lopez, a world-renowned drummer and producer. Lopez brings about the participation
of musical icons such as Michael Landau on guitar, Abram Laboriel on the
bass, The Mexican Symphony, and the distinguished horn section provided
by Tower of Power.
In the past two years, Rodrigo has been building a great fan base while
singing in front of more than 600,000 people. Now, along with his wife,
Rodrigo continues to tour throughout Latin America and the US promoting
Me Inundas. This 11-song collaboration weaves the listener through Latin
and R&B grooves, soulful ballads and Espinoza’s smooth vocal melodies.
