A 17-year-old Christian singer from Arizona has become the youngest American Idol champion in the show’s history. This year’s winner, Jordin Sparks, gained some significant experiences in Christian music before winning the coveted Idol crown.
Jordin was the overall winner at the 2004 Gospel Music Association Academy Spotlight, and a finalist at the 2004 GMA Music in the Rockies National Competition. She was also a singer on Michael W. Smith’s Christmastime tours in 2005 and 2006.
Jordin’s first single will be “This Is My Now,” a ballad written by Scott Krippayne and (pastor) Jeff Peabody who won American Idol’s sixth-season songwriting contest. Krippayne is well known as a singer songwriter in Christian music circles. His best known songs are “Sometimes He Calms the Storm,” “All My Days,” “More,” and “No More Pretending.” Point Of Grace, Phil Driscoll, Al Denson, David Robertson, and Tuesday’s Child have also recorded his music.
