Christian Teacher Jessica Tapia Receives Settlement

Christian educator Jessica Tapia recently received a $360,000 payout from a Riverside County school district to settle a lawsuit. Tapia was fired last year after being accused of refusing to follow policies regarding “transgender” and “gender-nonconforming” students, because of her Christian faith and beliefs… as well as her refusal to deny biological reality and ignore science.

“Her religious beliefs were not accommodated when they could have been. We think it sends a strong message that there’s a price to pay when you ask a teacher to lie and withhold information.”

Julianne Fleischer, Advocates for Faith & Freedom

Free Speech & Religious Rights Violate

The physical education at Jurupa Valley High School, claimed in her wrongful termination lawsuit that her free speech and religious rights had been violated. Among other things, Tapia had been accused of refusing to use students’ preferred pronouns, refusing to allow them to use the locker room matching their gender identity, refusing to withhold information from parents about their child’s “gender identity,” according to the lawsuit.

In addition to being required by the school district to violate her religious beliefs regarding the “transgender” agenda, Tapia was also told she must refrain from expressing religious beliefs with students or on social media in order to keep her job, in direct violation of her right to free speech.

Tapia explained in a recent interview that she wasn’t actively sharing her faith in the classroom, but that when students asked her a direct question, she would answer honestly.

Hear Tapia explain the basis for her lawsuit in her own words here:

Religious Beliefs Not Accommodated

Julianne Fleischer, legal counsel for Advocates for Faith & Freedom, a nonprofit religious liberties group, stated, “Her religious beliefs were not accommodated when they could have been. We think it sends a strong message that there’s a price to pay when you ask a teacher to lie and withhold information.”  Fleischer added that the settlement “serves as a reminder that religious freedom is protected, no matter your career.”

“What happened to me can happen to anybody, and I want the next teacher to know that it is worth it to take a stand for what is right.”

Former West Point High School Teacher Peter Vlaming Fired for Pronouns

Tapia is not the only person to be targeted for their faith by DEI practices or the “transgender” agenda. Former West Point High School French teacher Peter Vlaming was fired for refusing to refer to a transgender student by his requested pronouns. “Peter wasn’t fired for something he said; he was fired for something he couldn’t say. The Virginia Supreme Court rightly agreed that Peter’s case against the school board for violating his rights under the Virginia Constitution and state law should proceed,” said ADF Senior Counsel Chris Schandev.

Yojary Mundara Exonerated After Refusing to Use Special Pronouns

Florida law judge John Van Laningham ruled in favor of Miami science teacher Yojary Mundara who was fired for refusing to use a student’s “preferred pronouns.” The judge called “transgenderism” a “new secular faith.”

“I’m a Christian, and my God made no mistakes,” Mundara stated when declining to use the student’s preferred pronouns.

Tanner Cross Wins Settlement Against Loudoun County, VA After Using Biological Pronouns

Tanner Cross, a gym teacher at Leesburg Elementary School in Loudoun County, Virginia, won a legal settlement against the school board that banned them from retaliating against him over his opposition to transgender policies.

”The Loudoun County School Board recently passed a policy that forces teachers to call students by pronouns that are contrary to biology and violate my faith as a Christian,” stated Tanner.

Teachers Persecuted for Speaking Truth

These teachers understand truth and are being persecuted for speaking it. A French teacher would understand the correct use of pronouns and that gender is a term historically used to describe pronouns, nouns and adjectives in a Romance language, not people. A science teacher and physical education teachers would both grasp scientific and biological facts. In addition to being required to violate their religious beliefs, they were all asked to lie about biology and science. This is inexcusable in a nation founded on Christian principles and free speech.
