Christian Books Take Top Honors

For the first time, Christian books have captured the # 1 positions on the “Publishers Weekly” annual fiction and nonfiction charts. Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins’ “Desecration” (Tyndale) topped the adult hardcover fiction list, and Bruce Wilkinson’s “The Prayer of Jabez” (Multnomah) took top honors on the adult hardcover nonfiction list.
The ninth title in the “Left Behind” series will release three months early in trade paper. The June 4 street date is the first time Tyndale has used a street date for the paper edition of a “Left Behind” title.
Recent Association of American Publishers statistics released March 1 showed religious-book sales were up 4.7% to $1.31 billion, compared to overall 2001 trade sales, which dropped 2.6% to $6.37 billion.
