“Congratulations on a job well done! 10Best has taken note of your all-around quality, from your devotion to customers to your community involvement to your business acumen…so display this celebratory plaque proudly.” These were the words that complemented the plaque awarded to Christ Church Cathedral on October 10 from 10Best, an Internet source for online travel advice.
As one of the businesses/organizations chosen by editors, independent journalists and mystery travelers as a prime place to visit in Nashville, the First Friday Sacred Soul Space is touted in this fashion on the 10Best ‘Slices of Life’ web page: “Grounded in an Anglican religious framework, but incorporating contemporary dance and many of Nashville’s most talented musicians, these services feature everything from African drums to a Hank Williams, Sr., lament or a 6th-century chant. In fact, First Fridays offer people who didn’t’ think they liked organized religion in a new way into the church…one that has proven amazingly popular, often packing the pews of this downtown cathedral.”
Established in 1999, 10Best, Inc., provides unbiased travel advice to more than 40 million travelers each year through their website (www.10Best.com), as well as via their partners in the travel industry. “But because (we) are independently financed,” explains Brice J. Bay, President and CEO of 10Best, “we are free to be completely honest and impartial. We want you to know, loudly and clearly, that we appreciate what you do.”
What Christ Church Cathedral does is provide a very unique service at 6PM on the first Friday of each month as part of the Sacred Soul Space series. Based on the Book of Common Prayer, musical leadership is provided by the Gallery Musicians and many services are enhanced by the Epiphany Dancers with every moment designed to embrace Ancient Ritual, Artistic Expression and Spiritual Renewal.
The next First Friday service is scheduled to take place on November 2 and will be a “Celebration of Reconciliation: The Communion of All Saints.” Services start at 6PM, and for this particular event, a reception will be held immediately following at the Tennessee Art League, 808 Broadway, for a Reconciliation Art Exhibit Opening. Unless otherwise indicated, receptions normally take place at Christ Church Cathedral, located at 900 Broadway. If you would like more information about the Sacred Soul Space events, or any other church activity, please call (615) 255-7729.
About Christ Church Cathedral: Built in 1894 at 990 Broadway, Christ Church Cathedral is the spiritual home for over 2,000 parishioners. It also serves as the Cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee, and through its Sacred Space for the City ministry, it has become a Cathedral for the entire city of Nashville. With its gabled and hipped roof and a mix of Gothic arched and circular shaped stained glass windows, Christ Church Cathedral stands as a very beautifully complex structure.
