— Choose –Cinco de Mayo Spotlight on Alvaro Lopez

World-renowned drummer and One Voice Records Dove Award-winning producer/recording artist Alvaro Lopez shattered the world record for the Longest Drumming Marathon by an individual this weekend during the annual Expolit Convention held in Miami, FL. Lopez played for an astonishing 56 hours and 29 minutes with only 15 minute breaks every eight hours, breaking the previous record set in 2002 by South Africa¹s Michael MacPherson at 50 hours and 30 minutes.
“At no point did I doubt Alvaro could beat the record,” says One Voice Record vice-president Jose Garces. “He is a great man of God and that is where his strength comes from.”
Despite his fatigue, Lopez entertained the crowd by dancing and inviting other artists to join him. The popular drummer never faltered in his quest to break the record and continued to play long after his goal had been achieved.
“I give God all the glory,” Lopez said afterwards. “When I became tired, God provided the strength to continue. He has never let me down and because of that, I couldn¹t let Him down.”
Lopez began his award-winning professional career at a very early age as the drummer for Emanuel, one of Mexico¹s most revered contemporary singer/songwriters. Lopez has since toured and recorded with such other famous Latin American artists as Luis Miguel, Jose Jose, Menudo, Marco Antonio Muñiz, Lucero, Daniela Romo, Yuri, Amanda Miguel, Juan Gabriel and Pedro Vargas. He has received endorsements by such well-known corporations as Pepsi, Xerox, Direct TV, Meinl, Mapex and Regal Tip Signature Stix and DW.
Lopez’s current album, The Alvaro Lopez Project, is distributed through Provident Music Distribution and Latin Door Distribution.
