Doubleday Acquires Philip Yancey

Doubleday has acquired North American rights for a Philip Yancey nonfiction book tentatively titled “Why I’m Still a Christian: Recovering a Personal Faith From the Damaging Effects of Religion.” The book is scheduled to release in the fall of 2001. WaterBrook Press will manage the Christian market and Doubleday will handle secular market sales.

LifeWay Christian Stores is removing all titles by Gwen Shamblin. The diet author has posted doctrinal statements on her web site that dispute the Trinity. Earlier this month, Thomas Nelson canceled her latest book, Out of Egypt, due to the controversy surrounding her position.

CBA Hosts Asia Region Convention

CBA conducted its first regional convention in Hong Kong Sept. 6-8. Registered delegates totaled over 140. Fifteen countries were represented including Nepal and Papua New Guinea. According to organizer Jim Powell, CBA international development director, the Christian resource industry’s growth all across Asia suggested that such an event would be successful. The convention included an exhibit floor (most exhibitors are from Asia), plenary sessions (Bill Anderson, CBA president-CEO, was the major speaker), and workshops for retailers and publishers.
