Bluefield College Hosts Spring Open House for High School Students

Are you a high school student looking for the right college to attend?
If so, Bluefield College invites you to attend Spring Open House on campus,
Saturday, March 29.

The activities for BC’s Spring Open House will begin with a Majors and
Student Organizations Fair and continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in Shott
Hall. The Fair is designed to introduce prospective students to the various
BC academic divisions and programs of study and student organizations and
activities on campus.

“During the Majors and Organizations Fair, visitors will have the
opportunity to talk to members of the Bluefield College faculty to learn
more about their preferred major,” said Tim Havens, director of enrollment
management. “They will also get the chance to spend time with current
Bluefield College students to find out what its really like to attend a
Christian college.”
At 9:30 a.m., prospective students and their parents will have the
opportunity to ask questions and discover even more about the details of
life on the Bluefield College campus through a panel discussion with BC
faculty and current students. Guests may pose questions about any aspect of
the BC experience during this question-and-answer session in Harman Chapel.

At 10 a.m. in Harman Chapel, Dr. Elizabeth Gomez, vice president for
academic affairs, will provide an overview of the school1s academic
programs, followed by a presentation from Dr. Dan MacMillian, president of
the college, on “The Benefits of a Christian College.” BC’s dean of
students, Dan Bowman, will also discuss campus life and the benefits of
being involved.

Prospective students and their families can take part in campus tours at
11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon in Shott Hall. Students interested in
being a part of one of the college1s many music ensembles can take part in
music auditions at 1 p.m. in Harman Chapel.

A new feature for Open House weekend will be BC’s “Super Try-Out” for a
variety of sports teams. Prospective students interested in basketball can
try out for the BC women’s collegiate team on Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m. in
the Dome Gymnasium or the men’s team at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28 in the
Dome. On Saturday, March 29, high school seniors interested in soccer can
try out for either the men1s or women’s varsity soccer team at 2 p.m. at
East River Soccer Complex. Students interested in the “Super Try-Out” should
call the BC Office of Enrollment Management in advance at 276-326-4214 or

The Spring Open House schedule will also include family conferences on
the subjects of financial aid and the admissions process.

“Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions a young
person will ever make,” Havens added. “We invite local high school students
who are interested in an institution that will prepare them for more than
just a career to visit our campus to find out more about Bluefield College.
Spring Open House will offer a great opportunity to do just that.”

For more information or to make your reservations, please call Havens or
another BC admissions counselor at 276-326-4214 or 800-872-0175.
