BarlowGirl Debuts This Month

BarlowGirl, three sisters with a hope of sharing their faith and values through their music, will release their debut self-titled album, BarlowGirl, on Fervent Records on February 24. Provident Music Distribution will distribute the record to Christian and general market retail.
“BarlowGirl is one of those unique artists with a definite sense of their mission. They are firmly committed to making great music and challenging their generation to live lives transformed by God, not by the world,” said Susan Riley, Owner/ President of Fervent Records. “Their music is contagious and the lyrics are thought-provoking; I think there will be a lot of kids who will respond to their music and message.”
BarlowGirl ( is comprised of drummer Lauren (18), Alyssa (21) on bass and keyboards and guitarist Becca (24). The sisters, who grew up in the Chicago suburb of Elgin, IL., formed the band four years ago. They earned early notoriety from a song called “Barlow Girls” on Inpop Records’ Superchic(k)’s debut release Karaoke Superstars. Superchic(k) was inspired to write the song after meeting BarlowGirl at LifeFest Christian music festival in Wisconsin and being impressed by the sisters’ stance on purity and modesty. “Barlow Girls” has become one of Superchic(k)’s most requested songs in concert and has even inspired a website ( for girls who call themselves “BarlowGirls.”
“Making our first record has been both a thrilling and humbling experience,” said Alyssa. “We hope that we have produced a record that people will love for the music but will also speak to them about the issues our generation faces in growing their relationship with God.”
To produce BarlowGirl’s first major label release, Fervent Records called on Otto Price, who was a founding member and co-producer of SONICFLOOd and whose production credits include dcTalk, tobyMac, Out of Eden, Katinas, By the Tree and GRITS. Jeromy Deibler of FFH served as executive producer for the album along with Riley and Price. BarlowGirl will be one of the first debuts of 2004 when it releases in February.
All three sisters contribute to the writing of the songs on the debut album. The final track list is: “Harder Than The First Time,” “Never Alone,” “Pedestal,” “You Led Me,” “On My Own,” “She Walked Away,” “Mirror,” “Clothes,” “Average Girl,” “Superstar” and “Surrender.”
The first single serviced from BarlowGirl is “Harder Than The First Time.” The song is currently in rotation and climbing at both Rock and CHR radio, positioned at #16 and #18 respectively. Radio has been a cornerstone of the marketing plan and BarlowGirl has spent the past month visiting stations throughout the country to introduce their music to listeners.
“The BarlowGirl girls are both mature and spunky, quick witted and calm. I was impressed how well they handled themselves on and off the air during my morning show and was BLOWN AWAY by how well they sounded performing acoustically live. With their musically and lyrically relevant message these girls will continue to have a positive impact on young people for years to come,” said Greg Saunders, program director for WQFL in Rockford, Illinois.
Another key component of the launch of BarlowGirl will be touring. BarlowGirl will join the “Grace Like Rain Tour” featuring Todd Agnew and Silers Bald. The tour will visit 20 cities beginning March 6 in Dallas, Texas. BarlowGirl will also play major events and festivals in the summer of 2004.
“Touring will give us the opportunity to get out and connect with kids and hopefully get them excited about our music. We are grateful to Todd for the opportunity to join the tour this spring,” said Becca.
In addition to radio, Fervent Records plans a multi-faceted marketing plan to support the launch of BarlowGirl, which includes significant retail promotions, including end cap positioning, catalog placement and aggressive price points. The album will also be enhanced with an exclusive website. The exclusive website, accessible only with a purchase of the record, will include never before seen pictures, video footage, a never released downloadable song, and other insider fan content.
BarlowGirl joins Fervent Records growing list of critically acclaimed roster that includes Big Daddy Weave, By the Tree and Jill Phillips.
