Dutch Sheets’ Authority in Prayer should be recommended reading for all who follow Christ. Knowledge and application of the principles in this book will thrust Christians into a new, more powerful dimension.
Sheets’ work is easy to read with lots of humorous anecdotes. I chuckled over his stories about the big ugly family dog named Michelle and a double?billed cap he received for Father’s Day.
Sheets has been pastor of Springs Harvest Fellowship Church in Colorado Springs for more than fourteen years. He has written many books and become an internationally known speaker. He hobnobs with C. Peter Wagner, Chuck Pierce, Cindy Jacobs and other modern day prayer generals. His book, Intercessory Prayer – How God Can Use Your Prayers to Move Heaven and Earth, is already considered a classic.
In Authority in Prayer, Sheets reminds the reader that God’s power is available to us as members of His family, and he shows us how to transform our wimpy say-it-but-don’t-act-on it outlook into change?our?world authority, as God intended.
What is God’s norm for us? He writes, “Since he knows the end from the beginning, He never has to ad-lib or figure things out as He moves along. You’ll never find Him saying He is trying to ‘come up with’ a plan for us; rather, you find Him saying, ‘I know the plans that I have for you … to give you a future and a hope.’ (Jeremiah 29:11).”
Sheets gives instruction for effective intercession for our home and the world and discusses the invisible spiritual war that we must understand before we can operate in our authority. The reader will also find keys to God-ordained government intercession and how to save our land.
Authority in Prayer has not been a casual-read book. I have scribbled my own thoughts in the ample margins. I’ve copied out sample prayers and posted scriptures from its pages.
One of Sheets’ quotes flashes from a neon green card on my refrigerator: “[B]egin to govern your world. Serve notice on the powers of darkness that their chest-sitting days are over where you and yours are concerned. Beginning with your private world—conquer! Then in your extended world—overcome! And finally, in your universal world—rule!”
Dutch closes with one statement: “We can and will win this war! . . . It is time!”
