Atlantic Records Wins Four Doves with Nominations for Every 2000 Project Releases

Atlantic Records gained four 2001 GMA (Gospel Music
Association) Dove Awards following nominations for every project released by
the label this year. The label gained multiple nominations for artists Plus
One, P.O.D., Randy Travis and Damita.
Significant wins for the label include P.O.D. garnering a nod for Short
Form Music Video for Rock The Party (Off The Hook). P.O.D., who has been one
of music’s hottest groups throughout 2000-2001, and has received attention
and acceptance from millions of fans within and outside of the Christian
music genre. The group’s popularity and success continues to grow. With
coverage from Rolling Stone to CCM magazine to MTV’s TRL, P.O.D. has made an
impact into the culture that few artists have accomplished, and is poised to
build on their story of success with their upcoming fall 2001 release. The
band is currently in the studio working on their highly anticipated follow-up
release to the platinum selling, The Fundamental Elements Of Southtown.
Randy Travis earned awards for Bluegrass Album for Inspirational Journey
and Country Recorded Song for “Baptism.” Travis, beloved in the country
music market made his foray into Christian music this past year through his
highly successful Christian market debut, Inspirational Journey, and
continues to build his base with Christian music fans world-wide. Travis has
also appeared on numerous episodes of CBS’s Touched By An Angel this past
year, and will star in the season finale, performing his Dove Award-winning
hit “Baptism.”
In addition, the label secured the coveted New Artist of the Year award
for newcomer, Plus One. The new group recently certified their gold-selling
debut project The Promise, and is currently headlining a nation-wide tour,
with consistently sold-out dates in major markets. The group, who was the
top selling group in the Christian market for 2000, has achieved
unprecedented mainstream and Christian publicity appearances, including
coverage in Teen People and The Wall Street Journal and recently starred in
an episode of CBS’s Touched By An Angel. The group has also appeared on
Entertainment Tonight, CNN, CBS Evening News and Live! with Regis & Kelly.
The 32nd Annual Dove Awards, hosted by Michael W. Smith, was taped at the
Grand Ole Opry House on Thursday, April 26 at 9:00 p.m. (EST). The show will
be broadcast nationally on cable super station WGN this coming Friday night,
May 4 at 8:00 p.m. EST. In addition, the show will be featured on several
Pax TV stations the following Saturday and Sunday.
