Amy Grant Recovering From Rare Heart Surgery

Christian Artist and Nashville Native Amy Grant Recovering Following Heart Surgery for Rare Condition

Christian music legend and pop star Amy Grant is reported to be doing well following her heart surgery from last week. Many fans first became aware that Grant suffered from a heart condition when she took to Twitter on February 12 for Heart Health Awareness Month to share the news about a heart condition she has had since birth. Her doctor encouraged Grant have a full battery of tests because of her father’s medical history. Grand lost her dad to heart disease when he was 86.

“As always, I am feeling great, but the battery of tests he put me through show that I have had a heart condition since birth,” Grant posted. “The first good news is that I am completely asymptomatic. The second good news is that it’s fixable, so instead of concerts and camping trips this summer, I am going to take care of my heart.”

More recently, Grant’s Facebook account announced her surgery to correct her PAPVR condition last Wednesday.

From Team Amy – with all that is going on in our world that needs our collective prayer, please also join us in praying for Amy this week as she has heart surgery to correct her PAPVR condition.

Grant’s Facebook team also posted following surgery that “the doctor said it could not have gone better.” The most recent follow up report also came from her Facebook page on June 7:

Thank you for all the prayers and kind messages of love and encouragement for Amy this week. We are grateful to report that Amy is now out of the hospital ahead of schedule and continuing her recuperation/healing at home. Your continued prayers are much appreciated!

What is PAPVR?

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return or PAPVR, is a heart condition that is sometimes present at birth, in which one or two of the pulmonary veins of the heart drain blood into the right atrium instead of the left atrium. The American Heart Association says about 9 of every 1,000 babies in the U.S. are born with PAPVR.  PAPVR repair surgery like Amy Grant underwent is performed to fix the problem.

According to reports, Amy Grant is well on the road to recover and getting ready for her fall schedule.
