A Letter to Mom

Dear Mom,
Thanks for the note. Your timing is impeccable. While driving to work this morning I wept over the state of our nation and our world. I repented for not confronting sin and for being so passive about the state of our world. My prayer was that I would “DO SOMETHING” about it. I have written some poetry and I’ve done a few other things but is that all He desires me to do?

I want to be a yielded, obedient servant of God. I want people to know I am a Christian by my love. I want to “abhor what is evil and cling to what is good.”
Thanks for the note, mom. It confirms for me that God heard my prayer. His heart must hurt far more than mine about the state of this world. I know God has the power to step in and change everything, but that would not make Him a just God. Let me explain.
While God does, in his compassion, answer our prayers; God also judges mankind by what we do, what we speak, even the thoughts and intents of our hearts. Should He circumvent the free will of man, He would negate the eternal basis by which He judges. Sometimes we want God to do it all, but He didn’t design it that way. We will have no excuses when we stand before God. Creation itself testifies to the existence of God and His word makes it clear that our sin is the great breach. Jesus paid to restore that breach, but man must choose to receive the free gift of salvation that God offers through His Son, Jesus Christ. God can only judge based on our decisions and responses to Him. Should God simply “do it all” how could he justly condemn and how could He justly welcome any into His heaven? “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” So what do we do? God is truth and love when you boil it all down. Satan is the father of all lies who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Mankind is in the middle. “Choose ye this day, whom you shall serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
I will continue, mom, to ask, seek and knock that the Lord will open the doors of ministry that I should walk through. I am only one man, but the God I serve can do “exceedingly more than I can ask or imagine, according to the power that is at work within us.” It’s not about me at all. This life, and the privilege to live it, is ALL about Him. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gifts!
Boy, I sure feel refreshed this morning! Please, always share when the Lord brings something to your mind and you think of me. It is a wonderful thing when what His spirit is saying coincides with someone else. I do not believe it is just coincidence; it is a way God uses to confirm when a thing is from Him.
I better go. I love you, mom.
Your “little” boy,
Thomas
