2020 GMA Dove Awards Just Around the Corner

The Gospel Music Association (GMA) is in high gear as they make final preparations for the 51st Annual Dove Awards coming up on October 30. Founded in 1964, the Gospel Music Association serves as a major platform for the Gospel/Christian music community and is dedicated to promoting, and celebrating the Gospel through music of all styles, especially through its annual production of the GMA Dove Awards.

51st GMA Dove Awards Nominees

In August, the GMA Announced the 51st Annual Dove Nominees. Zach Williams and for King & Country led the Artist nominations with five (5) nods, including Artist of the Yea. Hillsong Worship, Kirk Franklin, and Jonathan McReynolds followed with four (4) nominations.  In non-artist nominations, Jason Ingram led with eight (8), along with Ed Cash, Jonathan Smith, and Jordan Sapp receiving seven (7) each. Notable first-time nominees include Kanye West (3), Gloria Gaynor (2), We The Kingdom (3), and Unspoken (2).

On Oct. 1, the Gospel Music Association has listed its first round of performers for 51st Annual Dove Awards. Artists scheduled to perform include Artist of the Year Nominees Tasha Cobbs Leonard and for King & Country featuring Lecrae and WRLDFMS Tony Williams as well as Apollo LTDJonathan McReynolds Leeland featuring Mandisa, Sinach and Maverick City Choir, and We The Kingdom.

GMA Adds More 51st Annual Dove Performers to the Awards Show

A second round of Dove Awards performers was recently added including Tauren Wells featuring Christine D’Clario, Jenn Johnson and Jekalyn Carr, Jeremy Camp, Travis Greene, Pastor Mike Jr., The Sound and Switch.

“The GMA is honored to continue its legacy of celebrating our diverse creative community and the music that moves us and ministers to us all, especially during these trying times,” GMA President Jackie Patillo says. “We believe this year, especially, our community and our world need to show love to one another and, above all, recognize and worship our faithful Creator.”     

In an effort to capture both the trials and triumphs of 2020, the Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s show will not be performed to a live audience. Instead, through a variety of pre-recorded performances, producer Paul Wright plans to incorporate a variety of new elements to create more of a cinematic approach than previous shows. In the video below, Wright shares his creative vision for this year’s reimagined event.

 Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the GMA won’t be hosting its annual live awards show, regularly held in Nashville. Instead GMA is putting together a new kind of Dove Awards; one that they hope will inspire through both music and story. The show will consist of a variety of pre-recorded performances and acceptance speeches.  

With the new format and all-star line-up, this year’s awards show will be a historic event not to be missed. The 51st Annual GMA Dove Awards will air Friday, October 30th, exclusively on TBN. Viewers can locate the broadcast on TBN using the network’s channel finder, via TBN’s live stream HERE, or by downloading the app to view TBN on Apple or Android devices. Viewers will be able to watch the global broadcast on the 30th at 8 pm/7 pm CST.
