17 Christians Are Killed for Their Faith Every Day in Nigeria

“Good Intentions in Nigeria Can Get You Scammed—or Killed—If You Don’t Know What You’re Doing”
—Judd Saul

Judd Saul, founder of TruthNigeria and longtime missionary filmmaker, is sounding the alarm for well-intentioned Americans seeking to “do something” to help Christians suffering in Nigeria. Every week, he says, people contact him with big hearts but little knowledge of just how dangerous and deceptive conditions on the ground can be.

“In Nigeria, one wrong move can get you scammed—or put you in real physical danger,” Saul warns. “Many foreigners assume that someone calling themselves a ‘pastor’ or politician can be trusted. Sadly, that’s not always true.”

As Saul explains, desperation in impoverished regions often leads to elaborate scams that prey on compassion. “Even a moving story or photo isn’t proof of need,” he says. “Everything must be verified—and handled by people with real experience and vetted partners.”

With TruthNigeria actively working to assist true victims of persecution, Saul hopes to raise awareness about responsible humanitarian engagement, how donors and churches can protect their resources, and how to identify legitimate partners working in high-risk regions.

Judd Saul is a family man, award-winning documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur, and missionary who has devoted more than a decade to serving persecuted Christians in Nigeria.Judd is the founder and executive director of Equipping The Persecuted, a mission and aid organization that provides security training, rapid crisis response, and practical support to persecuted Christian communities across Nigeria. He also founded

TruthNigeria, a news project giving on-the-ground Nigerian journalists a platform to expose the reality of jihadist violence and government complicity that is often ignored by Western media.A veteran film producer and director, Judd has created award-winning documentaries and media projects for major outlets while using his skills to advocate for religious freedom and to mobilize churches to stand with the persecuted. Since first traveling to Nigeria in 2011, he has returned several times each year, working alongside trusted local pastors and missionaries to protect, rebuild, and strengthen families targeted for their Christian faith.
