Sixpence None the Richer's second major hit "There She Goes" has been named among radio's most popular songs for the Year 2000. Airplay for the year has been tallied and "There She Goes" is the #28th most played song of 2000 in the combined Billboard Modern AC and Adult Top 40 Charts. These formats were combined by Active Industry Research (AIR) since both monitored charts encompass the Hot AC format of radio. Meanwhile, "There She Goes" also cracked the Top 40 most played songs of 2000 on Billboard's AC chart with a #39 showing.

Sixpence released "There She Goes" as the follow-up to the #1 world-wide smash, "Kiss Me." The second hit propelled sales of the self-titled album into Platinum territory as it sold over 1,000,000 copies in the United States alone. In addition the Squint Entertainment release garnered two Grammy Nominations.

"There She Goes" was a Top 10 hit at several formats including Billboard's Modern AC and Adult Top 40 charts. Meanwhile the song nailed the Top 20 at both Billboard's Top 40 and AC formats. "There She Goes" was even a Top 40 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, despite the absence of a retail single, which impacts positioning on the sales and airplay driven chart.

"'There She Goes' lived up to the pressure of following up a #1 mega-smash like 'Kiss Me' by immediately becoming the #1 most added track at radio for two weeks straight in late '99 and managed multi-format, Top 10 airplay within weeks of it's release," states John Butler, head of promotions for Squint Entertainment. "We're excited at the way 'There She Goes' became a research hit (in listener surveys conducted by radio stations) and the airplay it had over the past year."

Peak Chart Positions for "There She Goes" at Radio:

Billboard Modern AC @ #6
Billboard Adult Top 40 @ #7
Billboard Top 40 @ #13
Billboard AC @ #19
Billboard Hot 100 @ #32

Sixpence None the Richer has released another single as "Us" is making it's appearance on radio as well as on the nighttime talk show circuit. Sixpence's new album, produced by Paul Fox (XTC, Phish, 10,000 Maniacs, Sugarcubes), is set for a spring 2001 release, but there is no news yet as to when that happy event will occur although May has been mentioned. Squint Entertainment was recently put up for sale by the investors and Steve Taylor, founder of the label, "barely came up with the funds to buy his company back," according to Matt Slocum of the band. This period of upheaval has put several Squint projects on temporary hold.

The group has remained busy in the intervening months, recently joining former President Jimmy Carter on a house building project for Habitat For Humanity in New York City.Sixpence None the Richer was honored as Group / Duo of the Year in the 2000 Nashville Music Awards. The Nashville Scene, a Music City weekly, announced the winners in yesterday's special issue. Sixpence was also recognized in the Song of the Year category for "Kiss Me."

Singer Leigh Nash recently recorded her first solo single, "Need To Be Next to You" for the movie Bounce but denies she’s going solo. Although hesitant to do a song on her own, Leigh was encouraged to take the opportunity by fellow band members. In a recent interview with All Star, she says that she might be too inhibited to enjoy further solo work. In March, Leigh will reportedly be showing up in "Girls Who Rock" ad campaigns from Urban Decay.

All in all, Year 2000 was a busy year for Sixpence and only time will tell what the new year will bring. Related Articles & Stories:
