The wait is over. The highly anticipated sophomore release from sixteen-year-old Sparrow recording artist Bethany Dillon is finally here. Drawing upon the whirlwind year that saw the release of her debut CD, GMA nominations and extensive touring, Dillon has wrapped these life experiences into a collection of eleven tracks revealing her continuous desire to glimpse into the heart and mind of her Maker. With the help of producer Ed Cash (2005 GMA Producer of the Year), Dillon wrote or co-wrote every song on Imagination.
The songwriting on Imagination is one of the disc’s main highlights. While securing her own unique place among the most respected singer/songwriters in Christian music, we can see an artist whose heart is unearthing a stronger knowledge of God’s grace and eyes open wider for accepting His mystery and the freedom to trust more deeply. The disc opens with “Dreamer”, which was inspired by (and is featured in) the upcoming movie (starring Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning) of the same name. There are many shining moments on this amazing disc, with the most prominent being the worshipful “Hallelujah” and the closing title track. This amazing song paints an honest picture (both brutally and beautifully) of what it really is to live by faith. So calm and gentle, the emotion-charged track clearly stands out as my favorite track on the disc.
Imagination is truly a worthy follow-up to last year’s debut, and is clearly one of the year’s best offerings to date. If it’s music that’s both honest and inspiring, then this CD is just what you’re looking for. Enjoy!
