Don Finto was Pastor of the Belmont Church in Nashville, Tennessee, for over 25 years. Presently he continues to serve as a pastor to pastors both in the Belmont Family and among other related congregations. In recent years Don has also become actively involved with the resurrected community of Jewish believers in Jesus, both in the United States and in Israel.
Don received his formal education from Abilene Christian University, the University of Hamburg, Germany (while serving for eight years there with the Churches of Christ), in Harding Graduate School in Memphis, Tennessee (MA) and Vanderbilt University where he received a Ph.D. in German Literature. From 1963 to 1971 he was a member of the faculty of David Lipscomb College (now University), serving as an Associate Professor and Head of the Modern Language Department when he left in 1971. Recently Don and Martha spent a month studying at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The roots of Belmont Church are Church of Christ, but now is a church of denominational and cultural diversity, united in common commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Partially because of its location, Belmont has had a special call to the music community (it is located on Music Row), to the inner city, and to the university community. Since the late 60's when Don had a life changing spiritual experience, he has been in the front line of renewal within the body of Christ. In the early 70's Belmont was one of the churches in Nashville that actively related to the "Jesus Movement" and those who were coming to the Lord through that Holy Spirit outpouring. Through Don's leadership they became passionate advocates of racial reconciliation. In 1992 Don led the Belmont Church to become a "cell-based" church, believing this would be the best way to pastor a large church for the coming revival. After handing over the leadership of the church to Stephen Mansfield in January of 1997, Don has been active primarily in two areas: 1) fathering men in ministry, and 2) supporting the rapidly emerging Messianic Jewish movement. Don believes the return of the Messianic Jewish synagogues is the clear fulfillment of prophecies both from the Hebrew prophets (of the Old Testament) and the apostles (from the New Testament). Israel's return is a primary prophetic spark to world revival.
