Chronicles of Narnia: Music Inspired by: The Chronicles of Narnia - Various Artists (EMI CMG)
Some of CCM’s finest have come together to pay homage to one of the most beloved children’s stories of all time, the C.S. Lewis classic The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The disc, which features eleven brand-new original tracks, boasts a diverse line-up of artists that includes such heavyweights as Rebecca St. James, Jars of Clay, Steven Curtis Chapman and TobyMac, along with Kutless, David Crowder Band and a few others.
The disc starts off with Jars of Clay’s “Waiting For The World To Fall” and Chapman’s “Remembering You.” The former track find’s Dan and the guys returning to the familiar Jars sound we’ve come to love, while the latter is a tune that could have fit perfectly on any SCC disc of recent years. The Celtic/Folk-flavored track, which is the first single from the disc, easily became a personal favorite. TobyMac’s rap-rock combo “New World” is another favorite, as it stands out from the rest of the pack with its diverse musical style. Among the CD’s other highlights are tracks from St. James (“Lion”), Delirious? (“Stronger”), Nichole Nordeman (“I Will Believe”) and Crowder (“Turkish Delight”). The latter-mentioned track is a 70’s-infused disco track that’s sure to get your feet movin’. Offerings from Bethany Dillon, Jeremy Camp, Kutless and Chris Tomlin round out the disc.
Music Inspired By, while not your typical movie soundtrack, is the perfect companion for the soon-to-be released movie. Each artist on the disc has revered the classic tale by pouring their heart and soul into their respective songs, and it definitely shows. You’re sure to love this CD for years to come, since every track featured is highly enjoyable, which is a rarity for compilations released of late.
