Christian Activities 20th Anniversary

Christian Activities Publications is pleased to announce a double anniversary. October 1, 2012, marks the 20th anniversary of Christian Activities Magazine, and 2012 is also the 25th anniversary of Christian Activities Publications.

In 1987, publisher Kathryn E. Darden first began compiling information to distribute to help network Christian businesses, churches and events in Middle Tennessee. While working at Koinonia Christian Bookstore on Music Row in the late 1980s, Darden began publishing a directory for the Christian music industry as well as the Koinonia Concert Calendar, a calendar of Christian concerts and church events.

In 1992, Darden began publishing Christian Activities Nashville as a separate publication, making Christian Activities Nashville's oldest nondenominational publication. The newsletter was created to help churches and other Christian concert venues network, fellowship and promote Christian arts and entertainment events in Middle Tennessee.

The four page Nashville newsletter grew into a 24-page regional publication, expanding across Tennessee into Georgia, Kentucky and Alabama, changing its name to Christian Activities Magazine. In 1995, Christian Activities became one of the first Christian entertainment publications on the web.

Christian Activities has helped sponsor and promote numerous concerts, introduced new artists, carried features about gospel music legends and offered free concert calendar listings for two decades. With 20 years of publication and 17 years as an internet magazine, Christian Activities has played a vital part in the history of Christian music and Nashville Christian arts and entertainment.
